Residential / Commercial Sales Arborist – (pay negotiable)
Happy Tree LLC is seeking a Sales Arborist candidate who is either an ISA Certified Arborist, or who has the ability to obtain the certification within 90 days of hire. The Sales Arborist will help us develop both residential and commercial business in the Hampton Roads area. Grounds-person 1 – ($20.00 – $22.50)
The Grounds-person 1 position is the initial entry level position within Happy Tree LLC. Employees in this position have come to Happy Tree LLC with no experience in the field of arboriculture. New hires in this position must receive a minimum of 2 months on the job training and demonstrate specific proficiency (see bullet points below) before advancing to Grounds-person 2.
- Proper Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Job Site Set up.
- Truck Safety and Operations
- Chipper Safety and Chipper Operations.
- Proficiency in Ground Operation of Chainsaw use, Chainsaw Safety, and Chainsaw Maintenance.
- Completion of First Aid and CPR courses.
- Familiarity with all company policies and procedures.
- Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 60 days.

Grounds-person 2 – ($22.50 – $25.00 per hour)
The Grounds-person II position has successfully completed his/her probationary period as a Grounds-person 1 employee and has demonstrated the proficiencies required to advance to the ground person 2 position. Once in this position, the employee must demonstrate the additional proficiencies listed below before becoming eligible to advance to other company positions.
- Knowledge of distinct types of Ropes and slings and their various uses on an arboricultural job site.
- Demonstrable proficiency with the various knots used in basic rigging and ground operations.
- Knowledge, set-up and use of various lowering devices, and techniques to safely lower large limbs with maximum control.
- Demonstrable proficiency with all jobsite safety set-up procedures and with all ground-based equipment (mini-loaders, rope installation devices, etc.).
- Advanced knot proficiency.
- Demonstrable proficiency with all company safety and other jobsite procedures

Tree Climber 1 – ($25.00 – $27.50 per hour)
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in on-the-job training under the guidance of experienced tree climbers and crew members.
- Learn proper climbing techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures for tree care operations.
- Assist in the setup and maintenance of rigging systems, ropes, and safety gear.
- Learn to identify tree species, assess tree health, and recognize potential hazards.
- Assist with tree pruning, trimming, and removals as directed by crew leaders.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and grow within the company.
Qualifications:
- Has previously been part of a crew and around tree operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform strenuous tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and climbing trees.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies and procedures.

Tree Climber 2 – ($28.00 – $35.00 per hour)
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform tree climbing and aerial work using industry-standard climbing techniques and aerial lift equipment.
- Conduct tree pruning, trimming, and removals in accordance with industry best practices and safety standards.
- Assess tree health and identify potential hazards, recommending appropriate solutions and treatments as needed.
- Safely operate and maintain equipment, including chainsaws, rigging systems, and aerial lifts.
- Collaborate with crew members and clients to ensure project requirements are met and customer expectations are exceeded.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures at all times to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced crew members to foster their growth and development in the field of arboriculture.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including job site assessments, work orders, and client communications.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of climbing experience in tree care operations, preferably with Happy Tree or proven experience elsewhere.
- Proven experience in tree pruning, trimming, and removals.
- Strong knowledge of climbing techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Master Tree Climber ($35.00 – $45.00 per hour)
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate mastery of all tree climbing techniques, including but not limited to SRT (Single Rope Technique), DRT (Double Rope Technique), footlocking, and aerial rescue.
- Safely and efficiently perform tree pruning, trimming, and removals using advanced climbing techniques and rigging systems.
- Assess tree health and structural integrity, identify potential hazards, and recommend appropriate solutions and treatments.
- Lead tree care crews in the execution of complex projects, providing guidance, direction, and support to ensure project success.
- Train and mentor Climber 1s and Climber 2s in all climbing techniques, gear usage, safety protocols, and best practices.
- Collaborate with crew members, clients, and management to plan and execute tree care projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Conduct regular equipment inspections and maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operation of climbing gear, tools, and machinery.
- Serve as a role model for safety, professionalism, and excellence in tree care, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the team.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of climbing experience in tree care operations.
- Mastery of all tree climbing techniques and gear, including SRT, DRT, footlocking, and aerial rescue.
- Proven track record of safely and effectively leading tree care crews and executing complex projects.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- ISA Arborist Certification required.
- Ability to train and mentor junior climbers in all aspects of tree climbing and arboriculture.

Equipment Operator (pay negotiable)
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate various types of equipment including Prentiss loaders, skid steers, aerial bucket trucks, and articulated loaders.
- Perform daily safety checks and maintenance on equipment; report any malfunctions or needs for repair to management.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of tree care, removal, and landscaping projects.
- Collaborate with arborists to facilitate effective project completion, including tree planting, trimming, and removal.
- Manage the positioning of equipment and the handling of materials, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding environments.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, including those specific to tree care and heavy equipment operation.
- Assist in training less experienced team members on the safe operation of machinery.
- Participate in emergency response situations requiring heavy equipment operation.
- Provide feedback on equipment performance and participate in selecting new or replacement machinery.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education or certification in heavy equipment operation strongly preferred.
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery, including specific experience with Prentiss loaders, skid steers, aerial bucket trucks, and articulated loaders.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; commercial driver’s license (CDL) required.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform strenuous physical tasks.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and environmental preservation.
